Radio paddock: Max Nagl to TM Racing?
For many top riders, including nine-time GP winner Max Nagl, it is a stressful week to find a good team and salary. In the meantime, however, it looks very likely that the 30-year-old Nagl will compete for the TM factory team. The current Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider had previously stated that he absolutely wanted to be on a factory bike…
For some transfers, confirmation with an official press release comes so late that it is no longer newsworthy. Because it is generally known at that point. This year at least, it seems like many official announcements will come very late. Because the final confirmation of the budget from the engine manufacturer and/or other sponsors will come later than ever. Or because they prefer to announce the transfer when the driver's current contract has expired.
The only factory engine that remained?
Because Max nagl had long assumed that he would be able to stay with the factory Husqvarna MXGP, he was actually confronted with a fait accompli. It was only in mid-July that it became clear that there would no longer be room for him in 2018. Normally it is much too late to be able to negotiate for a factory seat. Nagl, who is in his third season in Kimi Raikkonen's team, was already in negotiations with TM earlier in his career. Now, according to our sources, he would do business with the Italian manufacturer after all. As an alternative, the German ex-MX1 vice world champion also explored the possibilities of setting up his own structure.
Although TM did not field an MXGP rider this year, 'the blue shirts' from Pesaro have often proven that they can prepare competitive material. Samuel Bernardini showed at the beginning of this year and last year what the TM MX2 engine has to offer. In the past too Davide Guarneri, Tanel Leok, Anthony Boissiere, Manuel Priem and Nagl's current manager Antti Pyrhonen seeing great results on TM's MX450. In 2013 and 2014, Max Nagl already rode for an Italian team, Honda Martin, which then ran the HRC MXGP factory team.
One thing is absolutely certain; to be continued!
