Bad luck for Jeffrey Dewulf!
Unfortunately, no Jeffrey Dewulf (Team Steel Dr. Jack) will be at the start in the MXGP of Switzerland. After all, the stylish West Flemish injured himself in his home GP in Lommel last weekend. Things went wrong in the first heat on Sunday, meaning Jeffrey did not score any points in the Belgian GP.
Like all other Belgian riders, Dewulf was looking forward to the Grand Prix of Lommel. The dress rehearsal in Gooik the week before had also gone well, despite a lack of competition rhythm.
What went wrong in Lommel?
Jeffrey Dewulf: “I didn't start very well, around 27th place, but I got into a good rhythm and was able to come back well. After seven laps I was 21st and I had a view of Bengtsson, Gonçalves and Lupino in front of me. I went a little over the bank with my front wheel and suddenly I went off headfirst. Everything went very quickly... It was a small steering error, but I did get the bike on me. Sad, especially because it was in my home GP and I have already stepped off much faster and had nothing! Now the fall wasn't too bad, but I still hurt myself quite a bit.”
We saw you with your face contorted in pain at the aid station between the heats. What was the balance?
Dewulf: “Major abrasions on my back and arm, but mainly bruised ribs and a lot of muscle pain. The abrasions are not too bad, but the pain in the ribs is really annoying, a hateful feeling. There's really nothing else you can do besides rest.”
When will we see you back on the bike?
Dewulf: “In any case, I want to heal quickly. I really want to be 110% fit again before we think about the next matches.”
Get well soon!
Dewulf: "Thank you."
