MCLB Tessenderlo: Segers win, bad luck Brackman!
A beaming David Segers stood on the highest scaffold in Tessenderlo in the evening. With two series victories, the Standing Construct-Geecobikes rider had every reason to be satisfied, especially as he saw his lead in the championship increase to 37 points. Wietse Brackman came second in the first heat, but had to retire with bad luck in the restart! Maarten Govaert came second (5-3) ahead of Torpjurn Van Hoe (4-4).
However, the day started well for Brackman. Wietse stole the holeshot from Segers in the first series. He held off the championship leader for laps - setting the fastest lap of the race - but on the penultimate lap 'Mad Dave' saw his chance. Segers crossed it and then drove away smoothly. At a considerable distance from the two strong holders, Jorne Tytgat took third place, shortly followed by 'Torpie' and Govaert.
Segers made it easy for himself in the second moto. The former pit bike world champion saved to the holeshot and remained authoritatively in the lead. He crossed the finish line with more than 11 seconds ahead of Jurgen Wybo. Wybo had some catching up to do after braking the bike to death twice earlier in the day. Maarten Govaert now also had a better race. He again had a mediocre start but managed to climb to 3rd. However, with eight laps to go he suffered a puncture at the back. However, Govaert proved himself adept at the discipline of “riding on eggshells”. The tire did not fly off the rim and Maarten, third in the standings, took points back from Brackman.
A worse scenario could not have been imagined for Wietse. He first crashed after four turns. Although he had come back well to third place in the half race, a blown cooling intestine threw a spanner in the works. The Leon Sagaert-Husqvarna rider lost at least 20 points. The gap with David Segers is now 37 points. A total of 100 points can still be earned during the last two tests...
