Jeffrey Herlings beats Romain Febvre in MXGP qualifying!
The Bullit had started seventh, but that was good enough to take the victory in a perfect race! Front starter Romain Febvre was eager to take his first qualifying victory, but the strong Monster Energy Yamaha pilot still had to bow his head to Herlings. Tim Gajser, Max Nagl and Tony Cairoli completed the top five.
Fortunately, the soil brought in, the rain that had stopped and a sparkling sun gave the MXGP qualifying race a much nicer appearance than the previous wet MXGP sessions. But especially the works on the track, which had evolved into a speedway circuit in the last editions of the Swedish GP, ensured optimal conditions with good grip. An excellent Romain Febvre showed his skills, but it was Jeffrey herlings that the MXGP Masterclass cared for. The Red Bull-KTM star was a bit cautious in the initial phase, but Jeffrey clearly had the best lines. Before three-quarters of the race, Febvre, Gajser and Herlings were four seconds behind, but in the last part of the race The Bullit went for the win! Jeffrey achieved his third qualifying victory of the season. However, at the finish the difference with the persistent Febvre was minimal, as the 2015 MXGP world champion finished 0,7 seconds…
Clement Desalle finished a regular race in seventh place, following Gautier Paulin. The returning Shaun Simpson finished ninth. However, unlucky man of the day was Max Anstie whose chain broke on the first lap, Jeremy Van Horebeek the Brit could not avoid and he too fell. To make matters worse for “the Jerre” he in turn was hit by Glenn Coldenhoff that had nowhere to go! Van Horebeek disappeared from the race, but The Hoff managed to somewhat limit the damage with a 15th place. Kevin Strijbos came in 13th, Ken De Dycker finished 16th ahead of Danish wildcard rider Nikolaj Larsen who rode a strong first half of the race. 24MX Honda's Damon Graulus qualified 18th. In his very first MXGP Nick Kouwenberg interviewed on the starting grid, but unfortunately that was the last achievement for Nick. He also disappeared from the match in the first round.
