Herlings and Oranje at the party in Lommel
Jeffrey Herlings has shown in the sandbox of Lommel, Limburg, who is currently the best sand rider in the MXGP class. The Dutchman won the opening series by almost half a minute over the Italian Antonio Cairoli. In the second series we did get the hoped-for duel between Herlings and Cairoli, but in the end it was Herlings who took the victory with a lead of almost 25 seconds. This was Herlings' second MXGP victory of the season after Latvia.
Antonio Cairoli, who punched Herlings in the previous sand Grand Prix in Ottobiano, Italy, now had to recognize the superiority in his teammate in “his” Lommel. For Jeffrey Herlings, this was the “revenge” he wanted to take after the defeat he had to endure in Ottobiano. In addition to these two top riders, Glen Coldenhoff also ensured that the Orange party was complete with the third podium place and thus also put the third Red Bull KTM on the final podium in Lommel. So the Orange team was at the top of the Lommel sandbox in all areas.
Belgians don't play for the podium...
Clement Desalle was our best regular rider with a sixth and fifth place in the heats, which put him just off the podium. Jeremy Van Horebeek achieved the best Belgian performance in the MXGP class with his fourth place in the opening series, but was unable to capitalize on that in the second series where he only finished 13th. Kevin Strijbos (13-11), winner in Lommel last year, came outside the top ten twice, which gave him 12th place overall. Finally, Ken De Dijcker was able to grab five World Cup points in the second series. Our other compatriots were able to move in home GP unfortunately didn't get any points.
