Herlings and Jonass win Qualifying Races in Lommel
Jeffrey Herlings (MXGP) and Pauls Jonass (MX2) have become the winners of the Qualifying Races for the Belgian Grand Prix in Lommel, Limburg. In the MXGP class, it was holeshot starter Antonio Cairoli who led almost the entire Qualifying until Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings took over the lead from the Sicilian on the very last lap. Herlings, who only started sixth, needed a few laps to get up to speed, but then passed Van Horebeek, Febvre, Nagl and Gajser to open the hunt for leader Cairoli. In the closing laps he got to Cairoli's wheel to really strike in the final lap and take the win.
Behind this duo, Jasikonis was normally number three, but the Suzuki rider drove around with a broken exhaust and was dropped back to eighth place in the final standings. Tim Gajser therefore became number three ahead of Febvre and Nagl. Jeremy Van Horebeek became our first compatriot in sixth place and Clement Desalle, followed by Kevin Strijbos, just finished the top ten. All our other compatriots finished just outside the top twenty in this qualifying series.
In the MX2 class, victory went to the leader in the standings, the Latvian Pauls Jonass, who finished ahead of Benoit Paturel and Jeremy Seewer. The Spaniard Prado was in the lead from the start, but had to pay for this in the closing laps and was only finished fourth. Julien Lieber was our best compatriot in seventh place and GP debutant Jago Geerts surprised friend and foe with an impressive tenth place in this MX2 Qualifying Race. The start was not that great for Kemea Yamaha rider Brent Van Doninck and he eventually finished thirteenth
