First Grand Prix victory for Paturel and the Kemea Yamaha team
Benoit Paturel has finally taken his very first Grand Prix victory of his career. In the Swiss Grand Prix, the Frenchman took second place in the first series and a victory in the second series. For the Belgian Kemea Yamaha team of team owner Hans Corvers and Team Manager Marnicq Bervoets, this was also their very first biggest success for the team in the MX2 class.
Second place went to home rider Jeremy Seewer who again failed to win his home GP, last season he was beaten by Max Anstie. The Suzuki World MX2 rider won the first series, but crashed at the start in the second series and was able to advance from last position to fifth place. The third podium place went to the leader in the standings Pauls Jonass, who was able to limit the damage somewhat on Swiss soil by finishing third twice. In the standings, the Red Bull KTM rider remains firmly in the lead and has to give up just one meager point to closest competitor, the Swiss Jeremy Seewer.
Lieber and Van Doninck lose points due to mistakes Seewer…
Julien Lieber started in the opening series as number four and rode a consistent series that ultimately earned him fifth. In the second heat, Lieber was in fifth place when he came under pressure from home rider Jeremy Seewer. About four laps from the end, Seewer hit the little Waal during the jump over the finish hill and Lieber went off spectacularly. The KTM rider was able to continue his race in tenth place, but made a second mistake and fell outside the points with a 21st place.
Brent Van Doninck started well in the opening series and was in seventh place until Jeremy Seewer made a mistake and brought Davy Pootjes to a crash where the Kemea Yamaha rider could no longer move and thus also crashed. Van Doninck had to work his way back from the background and would eventually end up in 15th place. In the second series, Van Doninck was only in 25th place after the first passage and was able to work his way up to 14th place. For Nathan Renkens there was still one World Cup point in the second series.
