BK Orp-le-Grand: sensational Tim Louis!
On paper, Micha-Boy De Waal was by far the fastest MX2 Inter in Orp yesterday. The Vamo-Honda driver only partially fulfilled that role of favorite due to mechanical failure. After a dropout, De Waal cleverly won the second round. However, all attention went to 19-year-old Tim Louis. The Husqvarna Anquety Motor Sport surprisingly took the overall victory thanks to a victory and a second place.
This success did not come completely out of the blue. Louis already won in Orp at the Beloften in 2014, last year he won at the Nationals MX2. Immediately his first victory at the Inters MX2! “The Orp circuit suits me perfectly,” Louis explains. “I felt good from the morning and it is also a great circuit. I came fourth in the timed training. Actually, I also came to Orp-le-Grand with the idea that I could ride for my first podium in the Belgian Championship. Winning like that was very unexpected. I am pursuing higher studies and I have exams the day after tomorrow. As a result, I cannot fully focus on motocross, as is the case with some of my competitors. It makes me even more proud of this victory.”
The regular Oriol Casas Cervera was on the podium in second 3/3), Jérôme Biets (5/4) came third. Although he was more than 3,3 seconds faster in timed training, Micha-Boy De Waal was only able to make his mark in the second heat. In the first heat he had to retire after just one and a half laps due to a problem with his engine. In the second moto Micha quickly went from fourth place at the start to second. Then he slipped and fell to eighth place. This way the audience got a nice comeback. In no time De Waal stormed to the front and two laps before the end Tim Luis was also there for the effort. “I had fun today,” said De Waal. “A very special track here, you can't compare it to anything, but it's fun to drive here.”
