Motocross Keiheuvel: the secondary categories!
The achievement of the day, in the national classes, was the victory of Shana van der Vlist (intro photo) in the second round of the MX2 Cup. The Dutchwoman completely outflanked her male opponents and won by no less than 1min12sec ahead of her compatriot Henk Pater. Lucas Derycke, the winner of the 1st heat, finished 3rd.
Cup MX2
Derycke took the day's victory in the Juniors MX2 ahead of van der Vlist and Jammy Cornil. In the Seniors MX2 the victory went to Dessel resident Mario Verreyt. Stéphanie Laier and Joey Verwijst joined Verreyt on stage. 'Good Old' Jan Blanquaert proved to be the most regular at the Experts MX2. Gert-Jan Vorstenbosch and Ward Huybrechts were allowed on stage.
Cup MX1
A pack of no fewer than 70 participants started training for the Cup MX1 in the morning. That training also served as a qualification because only the 48 fastest riders were allowed to go to the actual heats. It was Martijn Vermijl who would easily win the first round ahead of the Dane Bo Petersen and Cédric Verheyden. In the second round, the Italian ex-GP rider Christian Ravaglia would make things difficult for Vermijl for a long time. But the Italian did not appear to have as much patience as the Limburger in the sand and eventually had to leave the role. In the final phase, Dutchman Jaap Janssen settled into second place.
Vermijl was the logical final winner in the Juniors MX1, ahead of Jaap Janssen and Ken Craeghs. Kim Baelemans won the Seniors MX1 ahead of Gert Jansen and Jef Janssens. In the Experts, the victory went to Christian Ravaglia. The Fiamme d'Oro rider was flanked on the podium by Herentals player Cédric Verheyden and the German sand hare Tim Münchhofen.
Cup 125cc
The Belgian young wolves of the Cup 125cc were joined at the Keiheuvel by a few strong Dutchmen and a small Italian delegation. It was the Dutchman Loeka Thonies who won both heats. This happened in the first round for his compatriot Rob van de Veerdonk. MXMag.be columnist Wannes Van De Voorde finished third, after a catch-up race in which he recorded the fastest lap.
In the second heat, the Walloon national Killigan Delroeux came second, ahead of van de Veerdonk. After yet another catch-up race, Van De Voorde stranded in 4th place, but was therefore the best Belofte.Wannes Van De Voorde was the logical final winner of the Beloften 125. The Denicol KTM rider was ahead of Marnick Lagrou and Adrien Wagener in the final standings. In the Nationals 125 the final victory went to Loeka Thonies, ahead of Rob van de Veerdonk and Killigan Delroeux. Remarkable was the 4th place of Mirko Dal Bosco, the son of the Italian former GP rider Michele Dal Bosco.
Youth 85cc
Among the upcoming talents of the 85cc, all eyes were on Liam Everts. The Suzuki rider had recorded the second fastest time in the morning, after Kay Karssemakers. However, there would be no solution against Karssemakers. The Dutchman won both heats, in the first heat ahead of his compatriot Jelle Bankers. In the final heat Liam Everts managed to take the hard-fought second place. Everts Junior was able to take a seat on the lowest podium step, after Jelle Bankers and Kay Karssemakers.
