17-year-old Prado wins MX2 in Lommel, Lieber on the podium…
Spaniard Jorge Garcia Prado has won the Belgian MX2 Grand Prix. The 17-year-old Prado has already taken his second GP victory of the season. In Pietramurata, Italy, he took his very first on a hard track and now the Red Bull KTM rider is doing it again in the sandbox of Lommel.
Second place went to our compatriot Julien Lieber, who finished third in the first series and took a good second place in the second series. This was the little Walloon KTM rider's fifth podium finish of the season. Pauls Jonass, who convincingly won the first series for Prado, crashed in the first round and had to try to work his way back to the front from the very last position. Jonass succeeded very well and would eventually finish in fifth place behind Seewer.
In the title battle, Jeremy Seewer had to concede a few points to leader Jonass. In the first heat Seewer rode to third place behind Prado and Jonass, but in the restart Seewer was unable to take full advantage of Jonass' mistake. In the standings, Pauls Jonass now has a lead of just 50 points over Swiss Suzuki rider Jeremy Seewer.
Lieber save Belgian honor… Van Doninck below average…!!!
After we got Julien Lieber on stage, we had to look forward to Brent Van Doninck. The Kemea Yamaha rider did not have a great weekend and, plagued by a wrist injury, did not get further than tenth and twelfth place in the series. Yet Van Doninck continues to hold his place just inside the top ten in the standings. Unfortunately, for GP debutant Jago Geerts the race was over quickly in Lommel. Geerts fell at the start of the first heat and injured his shoulder, resulting in retirement. According to the initial investigation at the circuit, no fracture could be detected and further investigation will be carried out in the hospital on Monday. The Sahkar KTM rider therefore passed before the start of the second series.
