WMX: Amandine Verstappen provides a complete surprise!
This morning the ladies completed their second heat of the weekend. Due to the rain during the night, the track looked very different than yesterday. However, that did not bother the Belgian Amandine Verstappen (Silver Action KTM)! Verstappen took the holeshot and rode to victory ahead of Courtney Duncan and Nancy Van Der Ven.
Thanks to her sixth place yesterday and her victory today, Verstappen was able to finish second on the podium after GP winner Courtney Duncan (1-2). Duncan also takes over the lead in the World Cup from Fontanesi. Although Nancy Van de Ven started outside the top 10, she managed to finish third again. With this, Van de Ven took her second podium of the season.
Both Van de Ven and Verstappen had the circumstances on their side this time. Duncan made a mistake chasing Verstappen, while both Lancelot and Fontanesi lost a lot of ground when the Italian clashed with her rival!
Duncan now leads with 155 points, Fontanesi and Lancelot follow on 3 and 7 points respectively. Nancy Van de Ven is fourth on 12 points. So super exciting! The next GP for the women will be held in Assen on September 10, followed by the final in Villars-sous Ecot, France on September 17.
