Who else but… Antonio Cairoli in Portugal
Antonio Cairoli seems to be finding it difficult to stop this season... after winning last weekend in Ottobiano, Italy, he repeated the feat in Agueda, Portugal. Only in the first heat did he have to let Jeffrey Herlings go ahead, but in the second heat he controlled everything from the start and rode to his fifth victory of the season.
Second place went to Jeffrey Herlings, who was able to steal the victory from Cairoli in the first series, but had to recognize his superior in grandmaster Antonio Cairoli in the second series. For the third podium place we had a nice duel between Max Nagl and Arminas Jasikonis in the final series. Yet it was the Suzuki World MXGP rider Jasikonis from Stefan Everts' team who took his very first podium place of his young career.
Poor points harvest for our compatriots…
We were in Aguedo with six compatriots at the start of the MXGP class, where Clement Desalle was able to collect the most points with a sixth and tenth place in the series. With a total of 26 points, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider still remains in second place in the standings, but Cairoli now sees a lead of 91 points. Furthermore, after his finger injury, Jeremy Van Horebeek was only able to score six points in the first series and he even had to give up in the second series. There were only a few World Cup points for Ken De Dijcker (3) and Jeffrey Dewulf (2). Damon Graulus and the returning Kevin Strijbos even returned from Portugal scoreless.
