VMCF Genk: Double win for Roel Geurts!
The Lucky team can look back with satisfaction on their organization in Genk, which had a very busy weekend. AFTER the top performance on Saturday with the Oldtimers, the VMCF pilots were allowed to do their thing on Sunday. Roel Geurts is clearly back with a vengeance because the Limburg Kawasaki rider kept the victory within the province. Jens Carlier rode to a great victory in MX2.
From the first meters, Roel Geurts was at the front, but he was closely followed by a select group led by the returning Stijn Verstrepen, Frederic Weigert and Stef Bastaens. John Cuppen and Jonas Salaets were also on their toes so that the audience was treated to a fantastic battle. However, Roel Geurts proved to be faster every time because he was able to gain up to ten seconds ahead of the pursuers, where some returning riders understandably had difficulty with the pace. For example, Bastaens and Verstrepen had to slow down, allowing Jonas Salaets and John Cuppen to come forward. Yet they did not come second because in the last minutes Glenn Bielen suddenly flew past everyone and everything. The 15-year-old boy had been given a Honda 450 cc by Frederic Weigert after the theft of his own motorcycle and with it he completely closed the gap to Geurts. They flew around the circuit wheel by wheel and it was ultimately Roel Geurts who took the victory ahead of Glenn Bielen by three-tenths of a second. Jonas Salaets finished third ahead of John Cuppen and Stijn Verstrepen. Jens Carlier took the MX2 victory by crossing the finish line in twelfth.
In the final series, Roel Geurts again immediately stormed into the lead. This time Stijn Verstrepen and Jonas Salaets were the best followers while Stef Bastaens made a heavy blow in the first round. There was nothing to be done against Geurts in the final series because Glenn Bielen was also unable to connect with the leaders after a slip. Stijn Streepen again had to slow down in the heavy heat and his place was taken over by John Cuppen. The multiple IMBA champion defeated Jonas Salaets, who finished third ahead of Natale Gordano, who had just managed to pass Stijn Verstrepen. The best MX2 rider this time was Killigan Delroeux, who had to leave the overall victory to Jens Carlier. In the A class, Roel Geurts was beaming with his double victory ahead of John Cuppen and Jonas Salaets, who also found his way back to the podium. In the B class there was nothing to be done against Glenn Bielen.
Next VMCF appointment after the holidays on July 23 in Werchter where the motorcycles will also start.
