VLM: Veteran Kristof Salaets wins in Retie!
After Tessenderlo's bad luck, CKP Racing pilot Jens Van Meer (1-2) achieved a satisfactory podium finish today in Retie. However, the surprise of the day was served by Kristof Salaets (intro photo)! The MX Topshop rider came second to Van Meer in the first round and won the second race and therefore also the final score. Kenny Janssens retains the lead in the standings of the VLM Inters MX1 championship.
The men of MX Hanenberg had made some changes to the course compared to last year. There are many positive comments about this from the drivers. The differences in the time training were extremely small. Wouter van Massenhoven took pole in the morning, he was 0,032 (!) second faster than Steve Seronval. But Van meer and Vromans were also within 0,9 seconds of Van Massenhoven. Unfortunately no Dietger Damiaens in Retie because he was working in Lichtenvoorde where he finished 8th in the final of the Dutch Masters of Motocross.
In the first heat, fast starter Steven De Beuckelaer lit the fuse. A motivated Van Meer first passed Janssens and took the lead after three laps and never relinquished it! Immediately the second series victory in the championship for Jens. Behind the CKP Racing pilot, Kristof Salaets makes it a Kawasaki 1-2. Salaets had started fourth and left an eager impression, Janssens finished third ahead of Van Massenhoven. Although he recorded the fastest lap of the race, Steve Seronval felt anything but well. The Racing Center KTM pilot was able to limit the damage somewhat with a fifth place. In the MX2, Banken was once again the fastest!
First series victory for Salaets
Ex-MX3 GP topper Kristof Salaets has already put his nose to the window in recent weeks. In Retie, Gery De Haes' pool provided the breakthrough. Salaets was almost 2 seconds faster than the competition and in an excellent series he took the lead from start to finish. Josh Feytons and Greg Smets also started well, but were unable to hold on at the front. After a start outside the top 5, Jens Van Meer climbed nicely again. Van Meer had to tolerate a good Janssens for several laps. With a few laps to go, Kenny was defeated. He would eventually finish fourth after Wouter Van
Massenhoven. Seronval disappeared from the race with four laps to go. He is therefore the big loser of the weekend.
Kenny Janssens remains in the lead in the championship, he is followed by Van Meer on 36 points. The next round will take place on the Horensbergdam in Genk on July 30!
