VLM: Damiaens wins, Janssens consolidates lead!
No sunscreen again today in Tessenderlo, but that didn't make the battle any less! It has been clear for some time that you had to come from a good background to stop Dietger Damiaens, but Steve Seronval succeeded today… At least partially!
On Saturday the JMS competition was canceled in consultation with the organizing committee MX Team Mc De Buiting so that the circuit could be prepared in optimal conditions. Steve Seronval struggled with a blood virus last month, but already made it clear during the time training that he feels good about himself again. The multiple MCLB champion took pole ahead of Dieter Vromans, Jens Van Meer and Kenny Vandueren. Dietger Damiaens, who was looking for his fourth(!) victory in a row, was placed 6th at the gate.
In the driving rain, Seronval also performed well in the first series! Closely followed by Kenny Janssens, Jens Van Meer and Kenny Vandueren, it was an exciting spectacle. Van Meer - although doing well - fell away at the front when he crashed in a left bend. The denouement could also count because then Dietger Damiaens started to get involved, Seronval still had to make every effort. Ultimately, the KTM Racing Center pilot crossed the line with Dietger on his wheel - in less than 0,7 seconds! With Vandueren, Janssens and Van Mieghem (the first MX2 rider!) the top 5 was really close.
Damiaens puts things in order
A completely different competition picture in the second race. The sun came out and a large audience saw how Kenny Janssens took matters into his own hands. Janssens initially had Seronval chasing him, then Vandueren and just when the championship leader started looking forward to victory, Dietger Damiaens struck! As is often the case, the Dam Racing pilot had to return after a start in the sub-top. However, Dietger systematically rode to the front and took the victory convincingly, and his fourth overall victory in a row! Janssens did finish second Kenny Vandueren en Steve Seronval. He doesn't lack speed and perseverance Jens Van Meer had to deal with bad luck again in the revival. The CKP Racing pilot crashed at the start, after which it took a very long time before he got his Kawa running. Leaving two laps behind, Jens was therefore faced with an impossible task. Ultimately, the 22-year-old pilot from Beerse only crossed the line in 27th place.
Thanks to this regular competition and a final podium after Damiaens and Seronval, Janssens consolidates its leading position in the championship standings! Kenny started today with a 22-point lead over Jens Van Meer and left Tessenderlo with a 33-point lead over Steve 'Rocket' Seronval. Jens Van Meer was the unlucky one of the day, he is now third in the standings.
The recent graduate achieved success in MX2 Jordi Van Mieghem a resounding double victory. Talk about a successful week! In the battle for the championship Jonathan Banks today second (2-2) still firmly in the saddle. He leads by 47 points Dieter VromansVan Mieghem follows on 65 points.
Finally, a thank you to MC De Buiting and all employees for the excellent organization. For the spectators who (literally) dropped out after the first heat: too bad, because you missed something!
