Motocross world commemorates Hakan Carlqvist
Two-time FIM motocross world champion Hakan Carlqvist (63) died yesterday after a long illness. The Swede won the 250 1979cc Championship for Factory Husqvarna. In 1983 he became 500c world champion with Yamaha. He won a total of 20 GPs.
Carla not only made waves as a top pilot and powerhouse, he also wrote history with his 'beer stop' in Namur in 1988. When Carlqvist, at that time a private Kawasaki pilot, was in the lead in the second moto, he stopped at Chalet on the last lap du Monument. Hakan Carlqvist's pint captured the imagination for a long time. The MXMag editorial team would like to express its sincere support to his family, friends and all those who loved him.
