MCLB: Brackman wins thriller in Volkegem!
The Belgian motocross world was in a split mode again this weekend, which Kim Clijsters would be jealous of. Because in addition to the BMB BK in Kester, there was also competition in Komen by the VMCF, in Genk with the VLM and in Volkegem by the MCLB.
The latter tested six categories, as they say, to protect the organizer from the other competitions. In the Inters class we were looking forward to the match between David Segers and Wietse Brackman. Both men have been exchanging pennies all season when we talk about the MCLB Championship, with David Segers for the time being nine points ahead of youngster Brackman.
In Volkegem, in the first round it was again oldie David Segers and Jonkie Wietse Brackman who decided among themselves who would win the series. For a long time, Wietse Brackman seemed to have the upper hand on the beautiful Volkegem circuit. But on the penultimate lap, KTM pilot David Segers managed to overtake Wietse Brackman to race to victory with less than a second lead. Behind this roguish duo, Maarten Govaerts finished third in just under a minute. The top five was completed by Jorne Tytgat and Kenny Dult.
The second round starts again with a holeshot for Wietse Brackman, but this time he does not immediately get David Segers on the wheel. This time the leader in the championship starts fourth and must first pass Maarten Govaert and Kenny Dult before the hunt for Wietse Brackman can begin. Moving up to second place is something that happens quickly, but still ensures that Husqvarna pilot Wietse Brackman has already been able to build up a small lead. “Wacko Bracko” defended this small lead until the end of the heat, so he finished three seconds ahead of David Segers in this second heat. Kenny Dult finished third after a nice duel with Maarten Govaert, who crossed the finish line a moment later as Dult. The top five is completed by Jurgen Wybo.
The overall victory goes to Wietse Brackman who, with 47 points, has the same number of points as second man in the day's results David Segers. Maarten Govaert is third on the podium. In the championship, David Segers remains in the lead with a 9-point lead.
