MCLB: David Segers dominates in Erpe-Mere
The holidays must have had something to do with it, but the turnout at the Inters in Erpe-Mere was on the low side. Some top players also sent their proverbial cat, but David Segers did not let that bother him. Segers was absolutely outstanding at the Heerbaan and that resulted in two resounding victories.
There are tests for Novices MX2, Junior Nationals MX2, Junior Nationals MX1, Masters Open, sidecars and quads in Erpe-Mere, but not for the Inters.
Not an easy circuit there in Burst, Erpe-Mere and the conditions had something to do with that. There was a lot of dust here and there, in some parts it was really hard to find grip and the potholes also made it quite a challenge to find good lines. Jaimy Deleersnijder seemed to succeed in this in the first heat. Deleersnijder soon provided the surprise. The Yamaha pilot was in the lead until about halfway through, when he was called to order by David Segers who would eventually win with an almost 12 second lead. Maarten Govaert was third but had to retire due to a flat tire. Third place went to a strong recovery Jorne Tytgat.
Patchwork on the track - a dangerous jump that had been updated - resulted in a first. After all, the second heat was preceded by a sighting lap. After that study round, there was the real work. Dult was allowed to take command for a while, although he quickly had to make way for Segers. The Geeco Bikes pilot demonstrated his technical skills with a very regular heat. David almost consistently ran around 1 minute 30. This time Govaert was at the appointment. Maarten started in the sub-top and then dealt with Verleysen, Dult and Tytgat to routinely come in second. Tytgat finished third twice, making him second in the final standings.
In the MX2 the flowers went to Jérôme Biets who won twice ahead of Sven Roelandt.
