Jeremy Van Horebeek Champion of Flanders!
Home rider Jeremy Van Horebeek from Lot completely controlled the Motocross in Gooik! The Yamaha factory rider (2-1) defeated Kevin Strijbos (1-2) in the BC heats. 'the Jerre' was also the best in the final championship of Flanders! Brent Van Doninck won the MX2 convincingly thanks to two moto victories, each time ahead of Jago Geerts.
In any case, the brand new circuit of AMC Dworp had a successful baptism of fire. The wide, natural course was appreciated by both riders and the public. The only (major) downside was the dust, which was not dampened even by the heavy (short) shower in the first MX1 round. In that opener at the MX1, the audience got to see a very eager Kevin Strijbos. The kid had to be careful with the hunting one Jeremy Van Horebeek. Jeremy kept the pressure on but was forced to stop for a while due to a problem with his glasses. In this way, Strijbos finally succeeded. A boost for that Kevin Strijbos one week before the Limburg GP! Jéremy Delincé, always strong when it comes to looking for grip, rode to a brilliant 3rd place ahead of good old Steve Ramon and Jeffrey Dewulf. Ken De Dycker was held up at the start and had to come back from too far away to play a significant role.
In the second heat Van Horebeek turned the tables. Jeremy led from start to finish. Strijbos still had to scramble to hold off his pressing teammate Jasikonis. This time it was Jeremy Delince fourth, with which he also finally reached the MX1 podium in the Belgian Championship. Once again a reminder of the class and talent of the sympathetic KMP-Honda rider. Graulus was fifth again. After a bad start, Dewulf managed to recover to 10th place!
In the Superfinal with the 20 best MX1 riders and the 20 best MX2 riders Jeffrey Dewulf the holeshot on his Motorshop Desmet KTM. Once again Strijbos resolutely attacked and immediately passed Dewulf. Just like in the previous matches, Strijbos quickly got top favorite Van Horebeek behind him. However, The Jerre dealt with Strijbos after four laps and then systematically drove away. Behind the leaders, Jasikonis had a carefree race that earned him third place in the Championship of Flanders. There was more spectacle in the duel for fourth place between Dewulf and Delincé! Halfway through the race, Jeffrey unfortunately made a mistake that dropped him back to 6th place.
Van Doninck versus Jago Geerts!
Brent Van Doninck was the best MX2 in the mixed field in the Flanders Championship and after a weak start he still came back to 7th place.
In the first MX2 round, Van Doninck received a lot of resistance Iago Geerts. That match provided some nice moments, but Jago still had to give up against the more experienced Van Doninck. In the second moto the Kemea-Yamaha rider immediately took the lead. Geerts did approach, but his chance was lost due to a fall at the top. In both heats the second Belgian GP rider was in the field, Nathan Renkens third. Due to the absence of Thomas Covington, who had called in sick, and Calvin Vlaanderen, who was injured again, the level in the quarters was a lot lower than in the MX1. The top five was completed by Spaniard Oriol Cervera (4-6) and Kay In this (5-5)
To reach the top 10 in Gooik today you had to be from a good background. Yet the regular BK leaders did not leave their mark. Both leader Dietger Damiaens -eighth in series two and Erik Willems -tenth in series 1- held their own very well. Willems took one more point in the BC final standings! Damiaens finished in the Superfinal, pardon the Championship of Flanders, 12th, Willems 13th. Just to say that the two are evenly matched! Endurist Nick Trieste showed in front of his own audience that he has not forgotten how to cross. Triest finished 11th in both the Belgian Championship daily rankings and the Championship of Flanders.
If we want to highlight one class besides the Inters, it is the 125cc Cup. Fantastic to see the two-strokes at work on a track like the one in Gooik. Killigan Delroeux won the two heats, but in the first heat, promises Wannes van De Voorde and Lars Der Boven put up a good fight. In short, don't miss these guys if you can see them at work in the coming weeks!
