HOT: Trey Canard retires as a professional motocross rider!
Red Bull KTM factory rider Trey Canard has unexpectedly announced that he is ending his career with immediate effect! The 26-year-old Canard won two titles (one SX and one outdoor) in the Lites class and has 5 victories in the 450 to his name.
After a very successful career as an amateur, the rider from Oklahoma turned professional in 2007. He immediately won the AMA Supercross Lites East Championship in 2008, followed by the AMA Motocross Lites Championship in 2010. He rode to victory in the MXoN with Team USA in 2010 in front of his home crowd in Thunder Valley. His 450 career got off to a strong start in 2011 when he rode to three SX victories as a brand new factory Honda pilot. After six seasons with Honda, he switches to KTM for 2017. However, in recent seasons, the sympathetic American has gone from one injury to another. This year Canard only rode six SX races and two outdoors due to injuries.
Trey Canard: “I love racing and my passion for motocross is still the same but there comes a time in every rider's career when you realize it's better to stop. Although you mentally want to move on, sometimes the body doesn't allow that. I have had many injuries in my career and I have always done my best to heal and come back strong. Now however, I no longer feel able to get myself back to the level I need to compete at the highest level. I am sad to say goodbye, but at the same time very grateful and thankful for the last 10 years of my life. I never dreamed I would do the things I could do. It's fantastic to be able to realize my childhood dream and to get to know so many great fans and people in the motorcycle industry.”
Canard was known as a driven driver on the track and a positive role model for fans and competitors alike. Despite many setbacks and injuries, including a broken back in 2012, Trey remained determined. As a person, the religious Canard had a very positive attitude. As a result, he impressed both on and off the track, through his performance and his personality.
