Thomas Kjer Olsen Dutch Masters MX2 champion!
Before the decisive day of competition today, the difference between Thomas-Kjer Olsen (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) and Brian Bogers (HSF Logistics Motorsport Tream) was barely 6 points. Thanks to a victory and a second place, the Danish star secured the Dutch Masters MX2 title. Bogers fought back like a devil in a holy water cask and took the second heat to his name. As a consolation prize, Brian did win the day standings!
Olsen's Dutch MX2 title is the fifth for Jacky Martens' team since Romain Febvre in 2014 and Joël Roelants in 2010, 2009 and 2007. For the Husqvarna factory team, the success was complete with Thomas Covington's podium finish (3-3). !
“TKO” takes serious title option in race 1
Head start for David Herbreteau, who immediately had Stefan Kjer Olsen and Brian Bogers behind him. Unfortunately, there was also a massive crash at the start, with Lars Van Berkel and Jago Geerts among the main unlucky ones. Van Berkel would leave the race, Geerts was able to come back to place 13. Thomas Kjer Olsen left nothing to chance and took the lead early to win his first heat before the afternoon! Olsen won ahead of his rival Brian Bogers (HSF Motorsport). Brian did set the fastest lap of the race. This meant that “TKO” went into the final round with 9 points. Bogers certainly had a mathematical chance of winning the title, but he needed a dose of luck!
The big absentee was Roan van de Moosdijk. Yesterday he finished 4th in the qualifying race, but he was missing due to a technical defect.
One more time everything for Bogers!
Brian Bogers had already had an excellent Dutch Masters campaign with podium places in every round and a series victory in Harfsen. So just giving in without a fight was the last thing on BB189's mind! Thomas Covington took the holeshot but Bogers kept up the pressure and was able to capitalize when the American Husqvarna factory driver made a mistake. Brian rode to a brilliant victory in front of his own audience, although he still had to take into account a final offensive from Thomas Kjer-Olsen in the final phase. After two third places in the final standings, Bogers is now Dutch vice champion in MX2 for the first time. Covington eventually finished third again. Herbreteau also repeated his nice fourth place from the first heat. Suzuki factory rider Vaessen now finished fifth.
Just like in the first race, Jago Geerts was not lucky. He fell and disappeared from the race, just like Freek van der Vlist. Carglass Honda rider Jed Beaton had to retire with mechanical problems.
