MCLB Middelkerke: Segers wins prestige battle with Brackman!
The spectators of the MCLB classic in Middelkerke were not left hungry. Of course there is always a special atmosphere around the evening cross on the coast, but we were especially looking forward to the titanic duel for the championship: David Segers against Wietse Brackman. Brackman was not missing from the appointment, but the experienced Segers turned out to be just a little too strong!
For this eighth round in the championship, the difference between Segers and pursuer Brackman was barely 3 points! Wietse knew what he had to do and went for it. He started in the lead in the first moto and immediately pulled off strongly. None other than Segers himself dived into his wheel. Halfway through the race, the Standing Construct – Geeco Bikes pilot took over command and won with an 11 second lead over Brackman, who made another slip. Torpjurn Van Hoe came in 3rd after a regular race.
In a hectic first lap, Brackman immediately took the lead in the second moto. The Leon Sagaert-Husqvarna rider had Deleersnijder, Van Hoe and Segers behind him. Wietse was able to take advantage of the drumming behind him to move ahead. After 5 laps, 'Mad Dave' was in second place with only Brackman ahead of him. In a spectacular final, the two fighting cocks dueled wheel to wheel. However, with half a lap to go, Segers placed the decisive attack. The difference at the finish was only 1,1 seconds! Fantastic to see how the audience sympathized with the sporting battle.
Van Hoe was again 'best of the rest' so that Torpjurn was allowed on stage. As a result, Torpie also moves up from 10 to 8 in the standings. Jaimy Deleersnyder (4-7) also did a great job in the championship in Middelkerke because he jumped from 8 to 6 in the rankings! Jurgen Wybo (4-6) missed the starts to immediately play a significant role. He remains fourth and is now 2 points behind Maarten Govaert. Although Junior Decouter finished 6th in the first race, he unfortunately disappeared from the race after contact with Wybo.
A strong Tim Vandriessche won the MX2 class and is catching up with leader Jérôme Biets. The only downside: unfortunately there was no Super Final this time because due to a lack of time in the program, the municipality's organization was not allowed to run later. The 9th round of the Championship will continue next week in Volkegem!
