Jeremy Seewer wins tropical MX2 Grand Prix of Lombardia
Suzuki World MX2 rider Jeremy Seewer has won the Grand Prix of Lombardia in warm and tropical Ottobiano. The Swiss won the first series very easily and only had to finish second behind Pauls Jonass for the GP victory. For Seewer this was already the third GP victory of the season and this also takes seven points back from Pauls Jonass in the standings.
Second place went to Red Bull KTM rider Pauls Jonass, who only finished sixth in the first series, but was able to win the second series. Thomas Covington of the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team finished third on the podium after this very tough Grand Prix. Our northern neighbor Bas Vaessen achieved his best result of the season in these difficult conditions with seventh and fourth places, finishing in fifth place in the final standings after Benoit Paturel.
Lieber and Van Doninck scored twice in the points despite the heat...
Julien Lieber (33) was in a good position from the start and even rode to second place just before half way through the race, only having to let Benoit Paturel pass in the closing minutes to finish a good third in this first series. In the second series the start was not so good for Lieber, but the small Walloon KTM rider was still able to work his way up to tenth place.
Kemea Yamaha rider Brent Van Doninck was only just in the top twenty after the start of the first series, but gradually worked his way up towards the top ten. An eighth place was on the way until Brent had to throw off his goggles and saw teammate Alvin Ostlund pass in the final laps. In the second series the start was better and Brent was just outside the top ten. Until halfway through the race he was able to work his way up to sixth place, but then the heat struck Van Doninck and he dropped to twelfth place.
