New milestone for Bas Vaessen!
MX2 rookie Bas Vaessen (Suzuki World MX2) himself aimed for an outlier in Lommel or Assen. However, that happened this weekend in Ottobiano's sauna. Thanks to a 7th and 4th place, Bas finished fifth overall and first Dutchman. In the final settlement, the number three of the EMX250 in 2016 ended up six points off the podium!
“I started the weekend a bit slowly. Fortunately, I was able to turn things around on Sunday. In the first moto I had a reasonable start, then I was able to complete consistent laps and I was able to maintain my speed well. This also allowed me to regularly overtake someone. I felt good, I had everything under control and I finished seventh. In the second race I had another very good start. Early on I was able to pass riders so I finished fourth. Then I tried to follow Thomas Covington in front of me as best I could. Also I could handle his speed for a long time. Only towards the end I slowed down a bit so that I could certainly finish the heat without any problems. Dosing was necessary in that heat! Fourth place in the series as well as fifth place and in the final standings are my best GP performances so far. I am happy with that," said Vaessen.
Team manager Stefan Everts was also delighted with the performance of the #98 RM-Z250. “In addition to Seewer's great result, it was also a great weekend for Bas. Especially in the second heat. He drove aggressively in both races and held his position well in very difficult conditions. I'm happy for him that he got it done. These performances should give him confidence for the next GPs.”
