MON: Filip Bengtsson also wins second Galvin Cup!
Filip Bengtsson took the overall victory in the second round of the Galvin Cup yesterday at the Radio Circuit in Stevenbeek. The Swedish JH MX service rider won both heats, Mike Gijsbertsen came second ahead of Sven van der Mierden. In the standings, Bengtsson now has 42 points ahead of van der Mierden.
Bengtsson took the lead twice after starting in the sub-top. After three rounds he had put things in order each time. Fillibang even had a lead of 23 seconds over Mike Gisjbertsen in the second series. Gijsbertsen, who had started in the suit, had a great time catching up. Also in the first heat the Yamaha pilot had to move from the back to the front. In that first race he finished third after Sven van der Mierden (Husqvarna SKS Racing).
Van der Mierden had an eventful day on the Radio Circuit. After his impressive second place at the ONK MX1 in Rhenen and his victory in Veendam, he already proved his form in the morning with pole position in the timed training. In the first heat, van der Mierden led in the early stages, but he had to admit his superiority to Bengtsson. Still, Sven persisted for a while. In the early stages of the second heat, van der Mierden hit the jury bus hard. The match was then stopped and restarted. The driver from Valkenswaard was still allowed to start, but had to start from the second row as a penalty. After a strong comeback, van der Mierden crossed the finish line in fourth place, a few seconds behind number three Mike Kras.
Roy Silliën finished fourteenth in Stevenbeek (12-18), he is now seventh in the Galvin Cup standings. Glenn Bielen had to settle for 31st place (18-38). The next round of the Galvincup will take place on September 3 in Oss.
