Dietger Damiaens wins VLM in Genk
After conquering the Lommel sand last weekend, the VLM pilots were now able to prepare for the hard surface of Genk. In the Inters MX1-MX3 it was Dietger Damiaens who, after last week in Lommel, was now also crowned winner in Genk. Damiaens knew himself to be the strongest both in series one, where he managed to keep Jens Van Meer behind him, and in series two, where Kristof Salaets was the closest attacker. However, in the day's results it was not Van Meer or Salaets, but Greg Smets who ultimately came closest to Damiaens with a third and fourth place. For Jonas Salaets, who had just one point left over Kristof Salaets to still take the podium in third place.
A poor turnout at the inters (25 participants), partly due to the enduro race in Deurne where several top riders defended the colors of their local sponsor. We received a surprising fastest time during the time training from Arno Aerden.
The Greek rider Emmanouel Krikitos was the fastest out of the starting blocks, followed by Jens Van Meer who immediately took over the lead on the first lap. Krikitos was able to hold second place for some time until Dietger Damiaens stuck his nose to the window, he went first to Greg. Smets passes and in the 5th lap the young Greek also has to resist the pressure from Damiaens. Then he looks for Van Meer and once he has him, he further extends his lead lap after lap. The rider of MC De Biuiting Emmanouel Krikitos can hold on to 3rd place for a long time, but in the final phase he has to acknowledge his superior in Greg Smets who relegates him to 4th place.
The returning Jonas Salaets rode in 5th place from start to finish. In the second heat, Kristof Salaets is the first to round the corner at the first corner, followed by Jens Van Meer and Dietger Damiaens. Once again, Emmanoul Krikitos can be found at the front in 4th place. Van Meer has a flat tire and crashes and disappears from the race without any problem. After a few laps, tenor Damiaens takes over the lead from Kristof Salaets. Krikitos rode in third position for almost the entire heat, but unfortunately was unable to maintain this position due to the strong climb of Jonas Salaets, who took Greg Smets in tow and thus captured places 3 and 4 in the final phase. Damiaens wins ahead of Kristof Salaets and his nephew Jonas Salaets completes the top three. Kristof Salaets narrowly misses the podium due to his less good result in the first heat. A satisfied MC De Buiting is struggling with the top 5 place of their rider Emmanouel Krikitos, who continues to achieve better results.
