Clement Desalle wins in the mud of Russia…
Clement Desalle has won the Russian Grand Prix in Orlyonok, Russia. It was therefore a real battle for survival on Russian soil. Our compatriot took third place in the first series and won the second series, which was enough to take his second Grand Prix victory in a row. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider also took victory in the French Grand Prix.
In the first series it was Jeffrey Herlings who was able to take victory on a very watery circuit ahead of Cairoli and Desalle. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider Max Anstie and Gautier Paulin completed the top five. Ken De Dijcker came in 14th and 24MX Honda teammate Damon Graulus finished 17th.
In the second series, Romain Febvre seemed to be driving to victory, but he made a mistake when he tried to lap the winner of the first series, Jeffrey Herlings. Clement Desalle took the lead and rode to victory in this second series ahead of Febvre and Paulin. Jeffrey Herlings and Antonio Cairoli finished eighth and ninth. Ken De Dijcker took 12th place and Damon Graulus took the last World Cup point with his 20th place.
In the standings, Antonio Cairoli continues to hold the leading position, but now has to concede eleven points to the new second man Clement Desalle. Yet the difference now remains 47 points with nine games to go in the championship.
