VMCF Genk: First for Bielen, MX1 victory for Damiaens
Glenn Bielen provided a first as Inter B. He was the first to win a general inter-victory at the VMCF! In the inters MX1, Dietger Damiaens, who took the podium the day before at the VLM in Ranst, took a nice overall victory ahead of Bram Valckx and Junior Slegers. Kristof Van Vaerenbergh makes a successful comeback in the MX2 class. He won ahead of Jeremy Joris and the surprising Lucas Derijcke.
After the IMBA program, the VMCF had another full day planned on May 1 at the Horenbergsdam in Genk. The riders were present in large numbers, which meant that some series even had to be duplicated during the races and even during training. As usual, a lot of BMB riders had found their way to the VMCF organization. It became a marathon program that unfortunately ended with a heavy fall for defending champion Vincent Collet.
High tension at the inters due to the arrival of the IMBA champion John Cuppen and the French top player Victor Brossier to Genk. Some BMB riders were also present, which resulted in a very nervous round. On Saturday, however, we unfortunately lost Roel Geurts with a wrist injury, which meant that just over thirty top players appeared behind the starting gates. The holeshot in the first heat was reserved for Jerome Benonit ahead of Vincent Collet and Steve Dosquet. There was also great havoc on the starting field with a heavy fall for Dietger Damiaens, Eli Helsen, Patrick Cappellen and Killigan Delroeux. In the meantime, there was no waiting at the front because Benonit increased the pace every lap. Only one rider could follow and that was Vincent Collet who took over the lead halfway. Behind the leading duo, Steve Dosquet had now been joined by Bram Valckx, Glenn Bielen and Victor Brossier. The Frenchman would suffer a spectacular crash just one lap later when his chain broke and he disappeared from the race. In the meantime, Vincent Collet could not get rid of his tormentor Benonit and in the penultimate lap the Maris pilot took the lead again. However, Vincent Collet responded immediately and reclaimed the lead a few corners further. Collet won the opening heat ahead of Jerome Benonit and Bram Valckx, who had dragged Glenn Bielen past Steve Dosquet. John Cuppen finished just out of the top five in sixth ahead of an up-and-coming Dietger Damiaens and Bryan Engelen.
In the final series there was high tension again and in the first round there was another prize. The victims this time were Jerome Benonit, Brent Bourleau and Dennis Wagemans who were immediately eliminated. Dietger Damiaens had claimed the lead this time, but was really followed by Vincent Collet and Junior Slegers. The Bram Valckx-Bryan Engelen duo also got off to a good start, but could not avoid being attacked by a fierce Glenn Bielen. The teenager really used every meter of the track and would move into third place behind the unapproachable duo Damiaens-Collet. All places seemed to be fixed until on the penultimate lap Vincent Collet was suddenly catapulted from the engine due to a mechanical defect. The emergency services immediately recognized the seriousness of Collet's injuries and the red flag was raised, allowing Dietger Damiaens to win the heat ahead of Glenn Bielen and Junior Slegers. Bryan Engelen and Bram Valckx completed the top five ahead of John Cuppen and MX2 top rider Jeremy Joris.
