Preview: Erik Willems as new BC leader for RES circuit
The race in Axel on Easter Monday is the last of a very busy period for the BMB riders. After Mons, the rankings were completely turned upside down, making the young Inter Erik Willems the new leader in the Belgian Championship on his two-stroke Husqvarna.
Opponents Yentel Martens and Cedric Grobben had to miss the race in Mons and can no longer afford to make mistakes because official Husky rider Erik Willems scored optimally in Le Bois Brulé. Yentel Martens is still following closely behind youngster Dietger Damiaens who parked his DAM-KTM in third place. Ken De Dijcker, Cedric Grobben and Roy Sillien are the only ones who remain close to Willems, who is having his strongest season ever. The club riders at the inters are not the least because Jeffrey Dewulf, Joey Smet and Jurgen Wybo ride under the flag of organizer Amc Evergem.
There is tension at the Nationals MX1 because Jerome Benonit and Bram Valckx share the lead after an eventful race in Mons. Donny Schmidt, Joshua Feytons, Kevin Van Genechten and Jochem Walckiers are the other contenders who were able to stay close to the leading duo, so we may see a race within the race in Axel.
In the MX2 class, Bryan Engelen tried to make up some points against the foreign opposition in Mons and succeeded. He is therefore rewarded with a fourth place behind the new leader Mark Boot, who is riding on his home circuit in Axel. The Zeelander may open a huge gap on the opposition on Monday, where only Jago Geerts, who is still in an excellent second place, seems capable of following the fast Dutchman.
At the Nationals MX2, BK leader Jens Heyndrickx had a difficult weekend in Hainaut when the Yamaha rider crashed into a tree in the final heat. Glenn Bielen was outstanding in Mons and is again involved in the title debate. However, most attention in Axel goes to Michael Bruyninckx, who rides in his own backyard.
In the Cup MX1, the opposition in Axel must respond to ensure that the gap to the trio of Maxime Lurkin, Bo Petersen and Ken Creaghs does not become too wide. Otherwise we have to look for the new champion among this trio. In the MX2 class, the duo Thomas Delvoy (photo) and Lucas Derijcke stay close together, while Jammy Cornil remains the best follower.
The home riders will probably try to strike hard in Axel with favorites Emilio Van Nieuwenhuyse (125cc), Joey Verwijs (Seniors), defending champion Aswin Vandamme (Experts) and BK leader Avo Tack (85 cc), who includes clubmate Junior Bal in the field of participants. gets.
The organization in Axel is in the hands of Amc Evergem led by Walter Haentjens. As usual, the chrono training sessions do not start until 09.00:XNUMX am. The RES circuit can be found on the Lageweg in Axel.
