Ryan Dungey wins and goes to Las Vegas with a 9 point bonus
Ryan Dungey has emerged as the biggest winner from the penultimate event of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross series in New Jersey. The Red Bull KTM rider took victory ahead of teammate Marvin Musquin and Jason Anderson. With this victory, Dungey also travels with the best credentials to the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas for the final match. This penultimate race in the Metlife Stadium did not go well for standings leader Eli Tomac. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider started well and was immediately in the lead after the second lap, but then made an innocent mistake and immediately lost a lot of places. Tomac immediately dropped to fifteenth place, while Ryan Dungey took the lead. But Tomac also made a second mistake during his advance and would ultimately only be flagged eighth.
What does this mean in the standings with only one match to go in Las Vegas? Eli Tomac arrived in New Jersey with just three points ahead of Ryan Dungey, but the Red Bull KTM rider now takes over the leading position with the victory and turns a three-point deficit into a nine-point lead. With only one race to go, Dungey can drive a calculated race and Tomac must go all out for the win and wait and see what happens behind his back in the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
In the 250SX class, the riders from the East Coast class were back in New Jersey. The win in the Main Event went to Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider Zach Osborne who took the win ahead of Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis who took his second podium of the season. Third place went to standings leader Joey Savatgy. With just one race to go, the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider has a seven-point lead over Zach Osborne and an eight-point lead over Jordon Smith.
