Dave Strijbos back in motocross
It has been more than thirty years since Dave Strijbos won the world title in the 125cc class. That was in 1986. In the following years he came close to a second world title several times, but unlike John van den Berk, that second title never came.
After he stopped with the active cross, Strijbos always continued to follow the cross. As a cross enthusiast, he could regularly be found on the circuits as a spectator. He was almost never absent at the Grands Prix in the Netherlands. Strijbos recently took up a position within the cross world. You will now find him in the blue/white team clothing of HSF Logistics Motorsport. The management of the Dutch team was not satisfied with the performance of the drivers Calvin Flanders, Brian Bogers en Davy Pootjes in the first Grands Prix. That is why Strijbos has now been asked to guide the riders. This means that he will accompany them in Valkenswaard this weekend. Afterwards he will also do the same at all other GPs.
Dave Strijbos: "I'm coming into the team fresh now. I think there are still a lot of areas to improve in terms of ridership and fitness. The most important thing for now is to ensure structure and regularity. After various tests it will be clear what the good things are. We haven't really set a time, but I want to use the coming time to improve various things. After a few months we will take stock of the current state of affairs. I haven't set a specific goal, but I want to try to get the team and the drivers – they all have to do it together – to a higher level. That must be possible. A higher level simply means that better results should be achieved. I am convinced that with these riders it should be possible. Top six, top seven should be possible. That should be included at least. We have to achieve that this year. The top is currently very wide. The riders in the top ten can all be on the podium. The riders have to fight for every position, they have to give 110%. Otherwise they really won't participate.”
After five GPs, Brian Bogers occupies twelfth place in the World Championship standings, Calvin Vlaanderen is fifteenth and Davy Pootjes is nineteenth. Pootjes was injured in the second moto in Argentina and then did not start in Mexico and Italy. A return was planned for Valkenswaard, but further investigation revealed that Pootjes will require shoulder surgery, which means he will not be able to race for two months.
