Controversy in AMA SX: Reed penalized!
Especially as a Yamaha rider, you would expect Chad Reed to be able to distinguish the color blue. However, 'Skippy' remained color blind before the blue flag shown to him in St-Louis on Saturday. This was much to the anger of Ryan Dungey, who needlessly lost a lot of time behind the Australian.
The AMA has now ruled in Reed Vs. Dungey controversy. For ignoring the blue flag and hindering a faster rider behind him, the five points he scored in St. Louis will be retained. In addition, Reed must pay a fine of €5.000. It will be donated to the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit.
Reed made life difficult for pursuer Dungey for three rounds. He increased his speed and made himself as wide as possible. For the defending champions, these skirmishes came at the worst possible time. Dungey is under heavy pressure So Tomac who won five games in a row and has now closed to within 4 points! There is no doubt that Reed loses a lot of credit with these antics. With the exception of one podium finish, 2017 is almost his weakest season ever. For St Louis, his average finish was 10,5.
Last Saturday's Supercross final was not the first skirmish between Ryan Dungey en Chad Reed. In the first corner during the final in Detroit, Reed and Bogle crashed. According to Reed, Dungey - who remained upright - was the reason for the massive crash. The #22 even had to give up. In the heat race in St Louis there was also a lot of competition between the two. Here too, Reed held up the oncoming Dungey, which provided a spectacle but received little support from the Red Bull-KTM rider. Reed has not been heard from since “flaggate” in St-Louis. You can see Ryan Dungey's response above.
