Preview of MCLB-VJMO season 2017
The opening of the MCLB season in the Dutch border village of Overslag heralds a new era among the MCLB elite. After ten Intertitles in just 11 years, Steve Seronval switched to the VLM. This immediately opens up the battle!
OPEN COMBAT AT THE INTERS?
As mentioned in the introduction, the dominant Steve Seronval has sought other places. Only Jeffrey Dewulf succeeded in taking a title in Seronval in 2014. Although Dewulf has again taken an MCLB permit, it remains to be seen whether he will also participate in the full championship. Jurgen Wybo, who has had one of his better seasons, and David Segers, who is switching to KTM, will do everything they can to improve on their podium finishes of 2016.
Putting forward a top favorite is difficult with top performers like Maarten Govaert, Torpjurn Van Hoe, Jorne Tytgat and Dylan Verleysen who all achieved a final victory last season. We will also be looking forward to the two MX2 champions who will make the switch to MX1: two-time MCLB champion Wietse Brackman and VMCF Champion Karel Schepmans, new in MCLB just like, among others, Kevin Nolmans. Also to keep an eye on: Jaimy Deleersnyder, Dimitrie Sep, Kenny Dult, Junior Decouter, Glenn Baert, Sven Roelandt, Jens Bleyaert ea
MEERSSCHOUT'S ADVANCE IN MX2?
Also in MX2, which was plagued by a real plague of injuries last year, the search is on for a new champion. There are plenty of candidates now, including vice champion Tim Vandriessche, B champion Mattis Meersschout, Jérome Biets, Niki Debruyne, Yente Dourte, Gian Scheele, Rik Pijnen en Dylan Delagrense.
There is also fresh blood in the Inters MX2 B class with no fewer than five young PhD students (National Champions Greg Demeulemeester en Greg Fillers, Damon Tanghe, Michiel Vercauteren and Henson Lievens) who will compete against, among others, Nicky Vermoesen (barely ready to drive last year), Nick Van den Bergh, Yann Meulemeester, Kim Decock, Mike De Decker and Michael Dekeyser.
