ONK: Jeffrey Dewulf class too strong in Axel!
Unfortunately no Yentel Martens today in Axel, but still some tough challengers for Jeffrey Dewulf. However, Dewulf made short work of the opposition and dominated both rounds! He was joined on the podium by Filip Bengtsson (2-3) and Sven van der Mierden (4-4). In the MX2, Freek Van Der Vlist (1-2) was the most regular. Roan Van de Moosdijk, who won the second series, deservedly finished second ahead of Jago Geerts (4-3).
Although the track was excellently prepared by the RES Axel club members, yesterday's rain still provided the riders with a very challenging surface for their wheels. The strong wind that made the flagpoles ring also provided an additional challenge!
In the MX1 time training Bengtsson set the best time no. Although Dewulf and De Waal were just 0,137 seconds and 0,384 seconds respectively.
Double hit Jeffrey Dewulf
Jeffrey Dewulf had a cannon start but Cyril Enjoyment was right behind it. Genot felt good and went on the attack. The Falcon Motorsport KTM rider even became an early leader. Dewulf did not give up for very long. Despite the demanding conditions, the West Flemish apparently effortlessly cleaved through the wet sand! The biggest competition came from deeper in the field. After starting in 7th position, Bengtsson had started to rise. Fillibang came up well, came within two, but the jump to Jeffrey Dewulf was a bridge too far. Pleasure, lonely at three, held up nicely. Sven van der Mierden came in fifth. After the disqualification of Micha-Boy De Waal the Husqvarna SKS Racing rider even ended up in fourth place. De Waal was not the only one disqualified for cutting off the track, but it was a remarkably severe punishment. In almost all heats there were several riders who had their own interpretation in different places regarding the demarcation of the circuit.
De Waal did get some sporting revenge. In the second heat he started on the wheel of Dewulf and for most of the race Micha-Boy kept in touch with “JD123”. Bengtsson was somewhat disadvantaged at the start due to his lighter 350cc machine. Having just started in the top 20, the JH Service KTM rider was faced with a tough assignment. With a third place he was still able to limit the damage, although the differences at the finish were both compared to winner Dewulf and Micha-Boy De Waal considerable. Sven van der Mierden emerged as “Mr. consistency” and finished fourth again. Estonian Express Kahro was also consistent with two fifth places. Clearly going very deep in the first moto took its toll on Genot. The young promise had to settle for 12th place in the restart

MX2 at European Championship speed!
Felix Nilsson took the first holeshot in the MX2, although his reign was soon over. Jago Geerts took command and quickly got Freek Van Der Vlist behind him. Van der Vlist was able to take advantage of a mistake by Geerts, after which the two stayed close to each other for many laps. However, Jago slowed down when a mounting plate on his silencer came loose. Behind Van der Vlist and Geerts, Roy Van Heugten finished a hell of a game. After a poor start, the Modiform MX rider got into his rhythm better and better, he was rewarded with a third place ahead of the unfortunate Van de Moosdijk who had fallen twice. Carglass-Honda's Jed Beaton made his debut on European soil. Although Axel mainly served as a test match, the Australian showed that he is made of the right stuff! Beaton finished neatly fifth.
Geerts took the holeshot and again a duel with Van der Vlist seemed to be in the making. There was no repeat because Van de Moosdijk also wanted to get involved. In the same lap things went wrong for both Geerts and Van der Vlist. Van de Moosdijk turned out to be lightning fast and flawless this time. What the young Eindhoven resident showed was undoubtedly impressive. David Philippaerts' pupil finished almost 20 seconds ahead of Van der Vlist. EMX250 rider Beaton also caught the spotlight. The talented Australian came back very strong and even finished third! Unfortunately, he did not pass the noise control afterwards, meaning he faced a one-minute penalty. Beaton only finished 10th.
