KEMEA Yamaha Official MX2 Race Report, GP3 Argentina
If there is one race on the calendar that everyone is looking forward to, it is undoubtedly the Argentine GP. With a beautiful circuit located in the impressive landscape of Patagonia, both the circuit and the surrounding area are ideal locations to stay.
After the tough Indonesian GP, the riders were presented with a fast, spectacular, but difficult circuit. In the first free practice on Saturday, Alvin was busy getting a good feeling on the track when a rider in front of him crashed just after a jump. He couldn't avoid him anymore. He had a serious fall and hit his shoulder and head hard. After examination it turned out that he had not suffered any major injuries from the fall, but it was decided not to start again.
In qualifying Brent rode a strong race and crossed the line in fifth. Benoit got off to a bad start and only crossed the line in 25th on the first pass. In his haste to move up as quickly as possible, he made another mistake but came back strongly to eleventh place.
Thousands of enthusiastic fans witnessed an exciting first heat on Sunday with a great duel for second place. After a solid start, Paturel quickly moved up to second place. Once he got there he tried to close the gap with leader Jonass but he never got on his wheel. Brent also had a solid start and rode just outside the top 10 in the early stages. He climbed at a strong pace to finish seventh.
In the second series, Benoit had a terrible start. At the first timing point the Frenchman was in 27th position but soon started an impressive recovery. After 7 laps he was in 11th place when he made a mistake and lost a few places again. However, he did not give up and eventually came back to ninth place. This placed him fourth in the final standings. In the World Championship standings, Benoit drops to third place, now 6 points behind the leader. Brent again had a good start and rode a strong race. He crossed the line in sixth place and thus became seventh in the day's results. In the World Championship standings, however, Brent climbs to sixth place.
Benoit Paturel: “The first heat was good. I had a decent start and quickly found myself in second place. At the start of the second heat I collided with another rider and went off track. Initially I came back quite well, but because of that fall I lost a few places again. I gave it my all and tried to get as many points as possible. The speed was good but there was much more to it... I'm already looking forward to Mexico to achieve 2 consistent results there. I have good memories there because I finished on the podium there 2 years ago.”
Brent Vandoninck: “ I am satisfied with my weekend. Even though I was a little ill this weekend, I was able to compete in two consistent races and my starts were also a lot better. I'm a little disappointed that I'm only 7th in the daily results… I had hoped that I would be closer to the top 5 with these results. After last year, which was so disappointing, I have to regain my confidence if I participate in the top 5. I felt nervous when I was at the front like that, but I need this to get used to it again. I still have to be able to transfer the flow that I have in training to the competitions so that I can ride like I do in training. I do have the feeling that there is progress, so let's rebuild step by step.”
Alvin Ostlund: “ It's an unfortunate situation… Someone had crashed in front of me and I landed right on his bike. My shoulder blade has shifted slightly and the doctor ordered me to rest. It could have been worse but I hate watching the games from the sidelines. I will now do everything I can to help the shoulder heal. I have no idea how long I will be out but we will see what is possible for Mexico.”
