Eli Tomac also unstoppable in Detroit!!!
Eli Tomac continues to rack up wins in the AMA Monster Energy Supercross series. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider took victory in the 450SX class for the fourth consecutive week in Detroit. This was already the seventh victory of the season for Tomac in twelve races. But what is more important for Tomac is that he was able to make up some points on the leader in the standings Ryan Dungey and thus open up the title battle again.
After a good start in the Ford Field stadium, Tomac had to tolerate Marvin Musquin for a few laps before taking over command and taking the victory in Detroit without any problems. Frenchman Marvin Musquin took second place ahead of Red Bull KTM teammate Ryan Dungey. The start did not go so smoothly for Dungey and he had to attack from seventh position. Only on the penultimate lap was he able to take third place from Davi Millsaps and thus limit the damage somewhat. Before this race in Detroit, Dungey had a lead of 12 points over Tomac, but with this new victory by Tomac the difference has now been reduced to 7 points with four races to go in the championship.
In the 250SX class, victory in Detroit went to Jordon Smith who took his first ever 250SX win of his career ahead of Savatgy and Cianciarulo. Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis (108) also rode a very strong Main Event and even led for nine laps, but ultimately fell just off the podium in fourth place. For standings leader Zach Osborne it was a race to forget. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider crashed at the start and was forced to go into the pits to replace his front wheel. More than an 18th place was not possible for Osborne and that also has immediate consequences for the standings for the East Coast. Joey Savatgy now becomes the new leader ahead of Jordon Smith and Zach Osborne who sees a lead of 9 points disappear to a gap of 10 points behind the new leader Savatgy.
