Eli Tomac also the strongest in Daytona…
Eli Tomac has now also won the tenth round of the 2017 AMA Monster Energy Supercross Championship at the Daytona International Speedway. It was already the fifth victory of the season for Tomac. In the 250SX, the win went to Adam Cianciarulo who took his first of the season.
It was Jeremy Martin who will be riding Ken Roczen's CRF450R Honda bike from this weekend and who was in the lead from the opening lap. In his wake was also last weekend's winner in Toronto Eli Tomac. The start was much slower for the Red Bull KTM riders, for example, Marvin Musquin was held up in the first corner after the start after hitting the starting gate. It was also a minor disaster for teammate and leader in the standings Ryan Dungey when he only finished the first lap in seventeenth place. At the front, surprisingly, Jeremy Martin continued to hold the leading position until Eli Tomac felt the time was right to take over command. We were just over halfway through the race when the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider took over the lead and didn't relinquish it until the checkered flag. Martin took second place without any problems and Jason Anderson finished third. But what about Ryan Dungey? The Red Bull KTM rider had to come back from the background and took fourth place from Cole Seely on the final lap and was thus able to limit the damage somewhat. It was another setback for Marvin Musquin in Daytona and the Frenchman was only finished fifteenth.
In the battle for the title, Eli Tomac is doing a good job again by taking seven points back from Ryan Dungey with this victory. The difference after ten races is now 17 points between these two drivers. Marvin Musquin is starting to lose touch with the top two and now even has to give up third place to Cole Seely.
In the 250SX class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo took the win ahead of teammate Joey Savatgy. But the third podium place surprisingly went to ex-GP rider Dylan Ferrandis. The Frenchman, who is in his first season in the AMA, also takes his first podium in his fourth race. Zach Osborne still holds the lead in the standings after only crossing the finish line in fifth place in Daytona.
