Petrol injection for KTM's enduro two-strokes!!!
KTM has announced that they will be launching the world's first series production two-stroke enduros with direct injection! In May, KTM will introduce the 250EXC TPI and 300EXC TPI. Both models belong to the 2018 range.
Unfortunately, nothing has yet been announced about direct injection for two-stroke motocross models. The Austrian manufacturer has achieved an absolute breakthrough with fuel injection for the enduro two-strokes. It has been clear for some time that KTM is investing enormously in research and development in Mattighofen. As the biggest advantage of the TPI (Transfer Port Injection) technology, KTM claims a dramatically reduced fuel consumption. It is also no longer necessary to provide pre-mix gasoline or adjust the jets!
Joachim Sauer, KTM Product Marketing manager: “This is a fantastic development for KTM! We have been working on perfecting two-stroke fuel injection for some time now. We wanted to build competitive motorcycles with all the benefits of direct injection, but according to our 'Ready to Race' principle. This was really a very important consideration both in testing and the development itself. We are really looking forward to what this world first will bring to this segment!”
At this time, KTM does not want to say anything more about the revolutionary new TPI technology. So they will keep us in suspense until the international media presentation on May 15! The technology has already been tested in 'real-life conditions' such as the Roof of Africa Hard enduro at the end of last year. The 2018 KTM 250EXC TPI en KTM 300EXC TPI engines are expected at dealers in Europe early this summer. To be continued!
