Nicholls and Watson at the party in Maxxis – Culham
Hitachi KTM UK riders Jake Nicholls and Ben Watson dominated the first round of the Maxxis British Championship in Culham! Nicholls (1-1) beat the Irish Graeme Irwin (1-4) and the Frenchman Steven Lenoir (3-2) in the MX5.
After the very tough Indonesian GP, Nicholls and Watson had to race on a muddy track again. In the MX1, Nicholls, who handles well in these types of conditions, faced little resistance. Jake rode smoothly to two series victories. In the first series Steven Lenoir second for Elliot Banks-Browne, Irwin and Kristian Whatley. In the second heat Nicholls led from start to finish. The experienced Brad Anderson was now second, Irwin third.
Harri Kullas was the early leader in the first MX2 race and Ben Watson finished the job quietly. Kullas did finish second ahead of Hitachi KTMUK newcomer, recently arrived from New Zealand, Josiah Natzke. Watson also took the lead early in the second moto. Martin Barr put his dramatic first race right with an impressive second place. An 8 was enough for Kullasth place for second place on the final podium. The surprising one Brad Todd (5-5) reached 'the box' for the first time in the Maxxis British championship.
