Up-To-Know: Oakland AMA Supercross
Once the supercross season has started, it rages like a hyperactive TGV train filled with amphetamines until that one rest weekend during Easter. 17 Matches in 18 weeks! Oakland is the fifth round this weekend and it remains to be seen whether Eli Tomac can profile himself as a true competitor of Ryan Dungey after his victory in Phoenix. The question also arises whether Marvin Musquin can bounce back from a weak weekend in Phoenix and in turn stay in the race for the title. In the 450 class, Ken Roczen is of course still absent. In addition to him, Justin Barcia (wrist), Weston Peick (kidneys & wrist), Justin Bogle (lungs) and Trey Canard will also miss the game in Oakland. However, the latter has started motorcycle training again this week.
Christophe Pourcel will also not be at the start, the Frenchman has still not recovered from his neck injury sustained in Washougal. This should also explain the poorer results. Husqvarna and CP377 have mutually decided to let him compete in the Canadian Nationals this season. So that the right form can be regained in these competitions, a method that the KTM family previously applied to Davi Millsaps. Dean Wilson will take Christophe Pourcel's place from this weekend.
In the West Coast SX250 class the title battle is extremely exciting. With leader Shane McElrath four points ahead of Justin Hill. With his victories in the last two races, this Pro Circuit pilot gave the legendary team the 250th victory of their existence. These two also have to take into account Aaron Plessinger, who follows ten points behind Shane McElrath and therefore only six points behind Justin Hill. For Martin Davalos, the title once again does not seem to be for this year. He already follows 22 points, although there are of course still 125 points to be earned. Perhaps also important to know for your 'Fantasy Teams' is that Tyler Bowers (broken femur), Jeremy Martin (concussion), Chris Alldredge (collarbone), Zac Commans (hand & arm), Bradley Taft (concussion) and Hayden Mellross ( hand) will not drive in Oakland.
The first supercross race in Oakland-Alameda Coliseum took place in 1979. Since then, nine races have been held, so this race is somewhat of an anniversary edition.
