Up-To-Know: AMA Supercross Atlanta (Everything You Need!)
Tonight the AMA Supercross circus says goodbye to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. For the very last time, motocross bikes will roar in the stadium that opened in 1992 and has been part of the supercross championship since 1993. The stadium that holds the record for the most spectators during a supercross race, and which also hosted one of the most beautiful duels between Chad Reed and James Stewart in 2011, will be demolished at the end of 2017. The Georgia Dome will no longer appear on the calendar in 2018. There is no alternative in the region for the time being because the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta reportedly applies a "no sand in our stadium" rule.
On the sporting side, it should be reported that Cooper Webb will not participate in Atlanta this weekend after his crash in Minneapolis, due to a shoulder injury. The team expects him to be able to compete again soon, but is watching how his bruise develops. In addition to him, Justin Bogle is also doubtful, he also injured himself last week in Minneapolis and Justin Brayton is still suffering from his concussion. The season is already over for Benny Bloss in the SX250 East class. The giant of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS Team did more than decently in his heat race but injured himself in the main event when he went down in the whoops. He also sustained injuries to his shoulder and upper arm. He will now fully concentrate on the outdoor season in which he will compete on a 450cc machine.
The boys who are there are eagerly awaiting whether Eli Tomac and Marvin Musquin can continue to put further pressure on the reigning champion Ryan Dungey. In the East Coast class they are only starting their second race, in a championship where anything can still happen!
