PR: Lars van Berkel returns satisfied from Hawkstone Park
Vamo Racing Honda rider Lars van Berkel was one of the Dutch who started on Sunday at the international competition on the beautiful Hawkstone Park circuit in England. After the season opener at the Spanish Red Sand MX park was canceled, this was the rider from Veghel's first race of the season.
Lars had a bad start in the first moto, but on the difficult circuit his riding improved and he managed to come back to twelfth place. In the second moto, van Berkel was in a much better position at the start. Halfway through the heat he had a bad period, but managed to find his rhythm again after a number of laps and finished ninth in the wheel of Adam Sterry.
In the super final, Lars again had a bad start, but managed to make up a few places in the first corner and finished the first round in sixteenth place. After this, Lars managed to work his way up to twelfth place, where he managed to keep MX1 top riders such as Gautier Paulin behind him for quite some time. “Then I made a mistake uphill and fell completely still, then about five people passed me,” said van Berkel. Fortunately, the Vamo Honda rider managed to recover and was able to battle for fourteenth place on the last lap with Bas Vaessen and Freek van der Vlist. He managed to catch Vaessen, but there was not enough time to pass van der Vlist, so he had to be satisfied with fifteenth place.
All in all, Lars looks back on a successful opening of the season “the starts weren't really good but I'm going to work on that, other than that the riding went well. "I have been in a worse position at the start of the season," says a satisfied-looking Van Berkel.
