Exclusive: Jens Getteman about his ADAC switch
23-year-old Jens Getteman has had some turbulent years. Jens showed flashes of class in the World Cup, but his next goal lies elsewhere. Last Friday, the East Flemish announced that he will ride in German service for Pfeil-Kawasaki.
I take this agreement to be quite a relief?
Jens Getteman: “It certainly is! In fact, my sporting future was unclear for almost the entire winter. If you don't know where you will end up, it is also different to train and stay motivated. Jimmy Verburgh from FMX4ever helped me a lot after I broke with SilverAction last year. I rode a few GPs with his support, but we knew that I could not ride a full World Championship with FMX4ever-KTM. Thanks to Pfeil-Kawasaki I am offered a great program in a good team. And of all the national championships in Germany, the ADAC Masters is certainly the highest level.”
What will your program with Pfeil Kawasaki look like?
Getman: “I ride the entire ADAC MX Masters championship, as well as the great Inter-DM competitions and some MXGP races. We have yet to see what those are. Normally I definitely start in Valkenswaard. Jimmy Verburgh also continues to help me, but more as an advisor and manager.”
You also return to a familiar environment because you used to drive in Germany.
Getman: "Beats. We also did ADAC in the 85cc, and in 2008 I came third. The competitions are excellently organised, beautifully decorated and with a lot of public interest. They also have very cool courses. On March 12 I will ride my first race for Pfeil Kawasaki in Frankenbach. Then follows my first Inter-DM on April 2, which is the last dress rehearsal for the opener of the ADAC MX Masters in Fürstlich Drehna.”
What is the goal of the team?
Getman: “There is no absolute objective of you must do this or we expect that. Of course I would like to become a champion. The honors list is certainly not bad, it would be cool if I could get in there! In any case, I know that I want the jobs in Germany.”
We saw you doing well in the Supercross competitions, will there be a follow-up to that?
Getman: “I had actually never really ridden supercross before, but I enjoyed it 100%. I had a lot of fun in those supercross races. Schijndel and Goes immediately went well. During the Supercross in Herning I even finished on the podium in the final. And that with a two-stroke, great! It now became clear to me that I also want to focus more on supercross in the future. That was also an important argument for choosing Pfeil-Kawasaki and Germany. We haven't agreed anything yet about the German 2016/17 SX season, but I would love to be at the start.”
How is the first contact with the Kawasaki KX450F?
Getman: "Very good. Last Saturday I went for a first ride with the new bike in Axel. In fact, the feeling was right from the start. Now we can continue with testing and adjusting so that I can completely customize the Kawa. I'm looking forward to it!”
