Eli Tomac is now also winning in Oakland
After Eli Tomac left everyone behind in Phoenix last weekend, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider now also takes victory in the fifth race of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross series.
At the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum, Eli Tomac didn't get off to a great start in the 450SX Main Event, finishing in eighth place on the opening lap. Yet it wasn't until halfway through the race that Tomac was in the top three. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider then took a strong riding Cooper Webb and then started looking for the leader. That leading position was in the hands of Ryan Dungey, who took the lead from the opening lap. But this Dungey also had no story against the oncoming Tomac and had to passively watch as Tomac took over the leadership position four laps from the end and thus took his second victory in a row. Ryan Dungey had to be satisfied with second place ahead of “Rookie” Cooper Webb who immediately took his first podium place in the 450SX class. Frenchman Marvin Musquin dropped a lot of points for the second week in a row and only finished in ninth place behind Chad Reed.
Justin Hill took victory in the West Coast SX250 class for the third time in a row. With this victory, the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider takes over the leadership position from Shane McElrath, who crossed the finish line in third place in Oakland. In the standings after five races, the difference is barely one point in favor of Justin Hill.
