The “unknown” Dutchman Leo Combee takes the holeshot in the first heat. In the second heat it is the British Jeremy Whatley and the Kid Eric Geboers once again shows that he is a real go-getter, by twice coming back to the wheel of the leader Pekka Vehkonen. The Finn Vehkonen wins the Grand Prix ahead of Eric Geboers and the Swede Jörgen Nilsson. The slain favorite Gert-Jan van Doorn is unfortunately sidelined with a serious wrist injury.
