Thomas Ramette wins 24MX Supercross!
Maandag 10 oktober 2016 – The 24MX International Supercross took place in Stockholm at the same time as the SMX Cup in Gelsenkirchen. Two-time British Arenacross champion Thomas Ramette won, but home rider Fredrik Noren almost pulled off the surprise. Fast Freddie ended up second, Angelo Pellegrini was third.
Due to the same date as the SMX Cup, the comparisons were logical, although the differences were at least as striking. After all, the Swedish fans got to see a real Supercross race in the beautiful Tele2Arena. The friendly 'pit party' in the afternoon when spectators were allowed onto the tracks and had a chat with their heroes was also a great success.
The unfortunate Jason Anderson was transferred to the SMX Cup and with the injuries of Martin Davalos and Davi Millsaps, the 24MX International Supercross saw two more figureheads disappear. All eyes were of course focused on the remaining American specialists (Josh Hill, Benny Bloss, Ganon Audette, Ronnie Stewart, Ricky Renner, Alex Ray, Adam Enticknap), but the European SX riders turned out to be just as strong. Breed talent Josh Hill won the first series ahead of Thomas Ramette. In the second series the roles were reversed, but the fast Swede Fredrik Noren in particular got the audience - around 10.000 spectators - right in the stands. Noren fell in the first two heats when he was always in the lead. Getting back into the 10-lap sprint races was difficult for those who missed their start or made a mistake. However, in the third series, Norwegians put their affairs in order. The sympathetic Honda pilot took the holeshot and won convincingly.
The final round became decisive due to the use of double points. Hill was without a doubt the fastest of the field, but the retired ex-factory rider lacked a bit of sharpness. With Noren, Ramette, Pellegrini, Bloss and Hill, the trendsetters of the evening were all at the front of the final. However, to the great enthusiasm of the fans, Norwegians once again took the lead! The fact that Ramette was the most regular and won the final score hardly spoiled the fun. Noren, the Viking who lives the American dream, showed that he can also hold his own in supercross. Hopefully his great performance in the 24MX Supercross will give Fredrik the confidence to also take a step forward in the AMA Supercross.
The fastest female SX rider in the world Vicki Golden had little luck in Sweden. She made an unfortunate exit in the first series. With a painful back, Vicki failed to complete the remaining heats, but the courageous American still gave the best of herself in the FMX 'Best Whip' and 'Best Trick' competitions.
Stefan Olsson won in the 125cc, Albert Leegard was the best in the 65cc. Click here for the full results.
