Save Motorsport: Dark clouds over VMBB
The 2016 motocross season is not quite over yet and yet everyone seems to be already busy with 2017. Amateur federations MCLB and VLM have already prepared their calendars for next year. With 35 and 37 organizations on their calendars respectively, MCLB and VLM prove that there is no shortage of organizers for the time being. However, many competitions could still be canceled in a wet spring.
The fact that both federations can present a complete calendar before mid-October is a testament to their (proper) functioning. Closer examination of the two calendars also yielded some surprises. For example, MC Santi's cross in Hasselt, which took place for years as the 'Belgian National', is now on the VLM calendar. On the MCLB calendar we find the former MC Scheldeland competition in the provincial domain Puyenbroeck in Wachtebeke. In concrete terms, this means that VMBB will now have at least two fewer competitions on the not very well-organized national cross calendar.
