FIM ISDE: Slot still has a landslide in store!
When we last gave you an update, there were still two days left in the 'International Six Days Enduro'. Team USA and Italy battled it out in the World Trophy competition, and individually, American Taylor Robert took the lead.
However, on day five, disaster struck for the Italian Squadra. After four days of dueling with the very strong Yanks, they saw both Manuel Monni and Oscar Balletti drop out. Because a team needs all four of its pilots for the team result, America's biggest competitor was eliminated. This moved Great Britain to second place, but at 03:43 minutes.
Individually, victory on day 5 went to Josep Garcia Montana (E1), participating in the 'Junior World Trophy'. The Spaniard kept the Australian Daniel Sanders (E3), who had been performing strongly all week, behind him and the Italian Giacomo Redondi (E3). The latter now only had his individual ambitions to fight for, after the failure of his Italian teammates. Leader in the 'ISDE' Taylor Robert (E2) finished the fifth day in fourth position and limited the damage to his competitors. He saw Daniel Sanders sneak a little closer in the general classification to within about 12 seconds. Josep Garcia Montana and Giacomo Redondi, at third and fourth, are already more than half a minute behind.
The last day traditionally ends with a 'motocross' test. Beforehand, stealing another twelve seconds from Taylor Robert was an impossible task for Daniel Sanders. And it was an impossible task. In fact, Taylor Robert won this motocross class ahead of ex-motocross grand prix pilots such as Jonathan Barragan (E3) in second place and Nathan Watson (E1) in third place. Daniel Sanders finished in a creditable sixth place.
However, this test was still important for some pilots. This test became a mini horror story for Giacomo Redondi. The Italian lost about 20 seconds to winner Taylor Robert in this last test and finished 22nd. His closest pursuer Josep Garcia Montana rode this 'cross' about 10 times faster and finished 9th. Due to this small difference, the Italian ultimately missed the podium.
The Belgians finished as a team in thirteenth place in the Junior World Trophy. The star of the team was without a doubt Mathias Van Hoof, who finished a strong 17th in the E3 class, placing him 79th overall among the World & Junior participants. Teammates Martin Valenduc and Quintin Vinken in turn finished 44th and 45th in their E1 class, good for 122nd and 123rd overall.
