FIM ISDE: Americans succeed on day 1
Yesterday, Tuesday, the first day of the ISDE was held. Call it the 'Motocross of Nations', but in Enduro. The first day already had six tough tests and we were looking forward to seeing who could make their first attempt there in Spain today.
America, as it soon became apparent! In the first special, the 'Yanks' already showed that they had not traveled to play second fiddle. With Kailub Russel and Taylor Robert, they immediately took the first two places, while their teammate Thad Duvall finished eighth. Michael Layne, the slowest American in this first special, still managed to finish in twenty-seventh place. It was already clear to most countries that they did not have four pilots at that level. Only Italians straightened up and entered the duel with Giacoma Redondi in the lead. He clocked the fastest time on his Honda machine on the next two routes. Once for direct competitor Kailub Russel, once for Australian Daniel Sanders.
This Australian, in turn, shows that he has immediately found the right rhythm and feels good in Spain. He takes the top time on the fourth special of the day, ahead of Taylor Robert of America and Henric Stigell of Finland. We see the first Italian in fourth place with Manuel Monni, Gaicoma Redondi clocking a ninth fastest time.
The fifth special is a perfect match for home pilot Josep Garcia Montana, who makes Kailub Russel and Giacoma Redondi, who are on their way, bite the dust. The last stage of day one is also not won by an Italian or an American. No, it is the Czech Jaromir Romancik who sets the top time on the tables ahead of Giacoma Redondi who keeps coming back again and again. He, in turn, now remains ahead of Taylor Robert.
In the country rankings, America now leads with only 26 seconds ahead of Italy. Britain has also managed to limit the damage, knowing that there are five more brutally tough days ahead. Because the British are 56 seconds behind the American team. Home country Spain, in turn, follows just over one minute and a half.
In the individual rankings we see, all classes together, Giacoma Redondi (E3) is in the lead. This for the Americans Kailub Russel (E2) and Taylor Robert (E2). These three are chased by Josep Garcia Montana (E1), Daniel Sanders (E3), Henric Stigell (E1), Jamie McCanney (E2) and Davide Soreca (E1). Former motocross riders Manuel Monni (E1) and Pascal Rauchenecker (E1) complete the top ten.
Other names you may know and their positions: 12. Ivan Cervantes (E2); 18. Nathan Watson (E1); 21. Jonathan Barragan (E3); 24. Deny Phillipaerts (E2); 99. Mathias Van Hoof (E3); 139. Martin Valenduc (E1), 140. Quintin Vinken (E1)
This year Belgium will only send a Junior team with Mathias Van Hoof, who writes his story on his website, Martin Valenduc and Quentin Vinken. This team is currently penultimate in the Junior Trophy, about 42 minutes behind leader Sweden.

Be sure to keep an eye on MxMag.be because we expect a video summary from FIM Live every day, but this is most likely still in production.
