Save Motorsport: BMB Motorcross in crisis
An article by our colleague Bartel Jacobs, which the man wrote for 'De Motorsite', which we did not want to withhold from you. This 'Save Motorsport: BMB Motorcross in Crisis' fits into a complete series that looks at it 'VMF Debacle' and to the current Flemish Motocross landscape.
That the Belgian Motorcyclists' Union doesn't really have many motocross races on its calendar anymore is not new. The number of participants in these competitions is now also declining significantly. Last week you could already read here that the average number of participants for a BMB competition this year was 167 riders. That you with 167 riders out of the costs Belgian National, seems strong to us. Let alone that you with 103 riders – that's how many there were in Avesnes-sur-Helpes at the end of August – comes from the costs.
The declining participation numbers have caused a ripple effect. That's what we saw, among other things MC Scheldeland canceled his planned Belgian National. Don't blame them if they sensed in advance that they would be left with a financial hangover. However, the canceled competitions mean that the BMB Motocross competitions have ended up in a vicious circle. Fewer participants resulted in fewer competitions, fewer competitions resulted in even fewer participants.
